Courtney Vigil had a pair of games Friday night that she won't forget for a very long time. The sophomore catcher hit three homeruns and accounted for 11 RBI's in TSJC's two-game sweep over Otero Junior College.
In the second game, the Lady Trojans were down 8-4 heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning when sophomore Katelynn Findley started the comeback with a single to leadoff the inning. Two walks and a throwing error by Otero allowed Trinidad to make it an 8-6 game. A single by Jessica Salbato drove in the seventh run and then the Otero pitcher walked in the tying run to make it an 8-8 score. That brought Vigil to the plate with bases loaded. With a 1-1 count Vigil took the next pitch deep over the centerfield fence for the game winner. Salbato pitched the final two innings in relief for the victory.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Trojans came away with a 12-3 victory off two homeruns and 7 RBI's from Vigil and a 4-for-4 performance from freshmen Olivia Muniz. Salbato pitched six innings for the win allowing just five hits.
TSJC is now 18-7 on the season and tied for first with Western Nebraska in Region IX play with identical 8-2 conference records. The Lady Trojans are on the road for a better part of the next month, starting at Garden City Community College on Sunday, March 20 and at Seward Community College Monday, March 21.
