It was another good weekend of softball for the Lady Trojans as they won four games and lost two at Southside Park in Trinidad. TSJC picked up wins against North Platte Community College 11-3 and 15-4 and McCook Community College 2-1 and 5-2. The losses came against Western Nebraska by the scores of 7-1 and 16-0. TSJC is now 16-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
In the games against North Platte, the Lady Trojans hit a total of seven homeruns in the two games with freshmen Isabella Navarro hitting two in the 11-3 victory. Jessica Salbato and Demi Madalena each picked up the wins in the circle. Other players going yard on the day were Liz Aguilar, Chelsey Runyon, Olivia Muniz, Madalena and Lauren Bending.
On Saturday against McCook, TSJC came away with two hard-fought wins. In game one, Chelsey Runyon reached on a single in the fifth inning and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Shayla Felix. Navarro then hit a homerun in the bottom of the sixth to give the Trojans the lead for good. Salbato pitched a complete game throwing six shutout innings. In game two, Trinidad jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead off another homerun from Navarro in the first inning. Madalena picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle.
The Trojans 13-game win streak came to an end on Sunday as they lost both games of the doubleheader to Western Nebraska. In the first game, the only run Trinidad could muster was a homerun from Navarro, her fifth of the weekend and twelfth on the year, in the sixth inning. The Trojans were shut out in the second game of the doubleheader only managing one hit from Courtney Vigil.
This Friday, March 11, TSJC will host Otero Junior College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Southside Park. Both teams are 6-2 in conference play and two games behind first place Western Nebraska who is 8-2 in conference play.
