It was a great weekend for the Trinidad State Junior College softball team as they opened Region IX conference play with four wins over Northeastern Junior College (NJC) by the scores of 14-0, 10-1, 10-0 and 13-0.
On Saturday afternoon the Trojans got things going quickly with a nine-run first inning. It was started off with RBI doubles from Isabella Navarro and Samantha Glover, and then finished off with home runs from Chelsey Runyon, Tori Martinez and Courtney Vigil. TSJC pounded out 11 hits in the win with Jessica Salbato getting the victory in the circle, allowing just three hits in the shutout. Game two saw Navarro have the big bat with two home runs and five RBI's. Megan Cosslett added three RBI's and Demi Madalena picked up the win throwing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Game one on Sunday morning followed suit as Trinidad scored eight runs in the first two innings on their way to a 10-0 win. Elizabeth Aguilar, Navarro, Glover and Runyon had two-RBI's each in the game. Salbato picked up her fifth win of the season. In game two Madalena picked up her fifth win as her teammates helped her a 13-0 victory. Vanessa Rodarte hit a solo homerun and Adriana DeVille went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI's.
TSJC (12-5 and 4-0 in conference) play North Platte on Friday for a doubleheader starting at noon. They then host Region IX foes McCook Community College on Saturday and Western Nebraska on Sunday. All games are at Southside Park.
